uly, 1927, regarding Colonial Office Printed Memorandum Eastern No.121 (Fifth Edition), I have the honour to request

(1) that paragraph 4(c) of the Memorandum may be amended

by the substitution of the words "An officer not

entitled to free quarters residing with an officer entitled to free quarters in such quarters shall pay" for the words "An unmarried officer residing in the quarters of an officer entitled to free quarters pays" in order to bring the statement into accordance with

General Order 109 (3) (copy enclosed) and

that the following may be substituted for paragraph 6:-

The present rule as to superannuation is that, in

the case of ill-health, an officer holding a pensionable appointment may be allowed to retire on a pension after ten years' continuous service;

otherwise he must have attained the age of 55.

For ten years service and upwards one seven-

hundred and twentieth of the annual salary of the

retiring officer for each completed month of service may be awarded, together with an addition

of five sixtieths of such salary, provided that
